we have a plan

Judith, Robert, a dr. friend, a nurse friend and Kirby’s primary dr. had a meeting last night.  Last night, actually this morning in the wee wee hours, was the 5th (and final) night of the first round of chemo treatments.  It will be two weeks before the second five-day  round of chemo treatments.  During the next  two weeks we will get more pathology results back from Johns Hopkins and another  specialty  lab.  Kirby’s Dr. will consult with the other drs. who have experience with this type of cancer.

We are working on transitioning to meds that we can give at home to control her nausea and pain.   As soon as we have that under control, we go home.

Last night the dr. said that patients who are good performers i.e. do more for themselves tend to do better with the chemo.  That means eating, walking etc.  ( I have got to add positive attitude, prayer and humor the mix)

L’Shana Tova to the Capen-Weinstein family. My prayers during the High Holy Days will be for Kirby to have a complete healing of body and soul; for the skill of the doctors; and for the family to have strength and faith.

The grandchildren and I will begin making cranes very soon.

    Love and gentle hugs,
    Ilona

Kirby, you and your family have been in my daily thoughts and meditations. I had hoped to visit you tomorrow, but I seem to have caught some kind of “bug” that’s sitting in my chest right now. So I think it best I not share any unwanted germs with you. Instead, I will share a Shel Silverstein poem from a newly released book Every Thing On It, that includes works and illustrations that haven’t been previously punished. Hope this makes you smile 🙂

    Every Thing On It
I asked for a hot dog
    With everything on it,
And that was my big mistake,
‘Cause it came with a parrot,
    A bee in a bonnet,
    A wristwatch, a wrench, and a rake.
    It came with a goldfish,
    A flag, and a fiddle,
A frog, and a front porch swing,
    And a mouse in a mask –
That’s the last time I ask
For a hot dog with everything.

Wishing you continued healing as you go from strength to strength.
    Love and hugs, Jan
