Reflection Writing from Duane Reade

I spent about an hour and seventeen and a half minutes yesterday in Duane Reade pharmacy working on picking up prescriptions for Kirby, partly complicated by prescriptions “filled” in DC that weren’t ready to pick up before we left, calls to Grubbs to get them canceled, then calls to the doctors to have them called into the NYC pharmacy, etc. etc. needing to do most of it twice… (Imagine how long this might have taken before cell phones…basically forever).

The pharmacist noticed (or did a flag come up on her screen?) that some of the things Kirby had prescriptions for “should not be taken at the same time!” so there were calls to the doctors to figure out what to take and what not to take, should the prescription be filled and on and on. While I was there I reflected on all the meds both on the shelves and behind the counter, and that it is a tossup whether there are more pharmacies or Starbucks in NYC. Clearly there is a lot of sickness and a lot of pain all around all around, not just in NYC. Think of every medicine cabinet in the world. We are all pretty much on the same concept plan as Kirby’s, i.e. balancing our treatment plans with quality of our lives.

Kirby, I will be in DC from Wednesday 11/23 to Friday morning. Is there any chance I can drop by for a quick visit? (I will bring 700+ cranes too :D) I know Thanksgiving is a busy time. Please let me know 🙂
