Chemo on Friday

By Judith and Robert

Kirby is calling it 1C: the first chemo of a third agent.

(What she had three weeks ago, after the scan showed the tumors were growing and multiplying, irenotecan, seems to have been quite useless as thirteen days after that chemo the pain started getting worse…)

So, Friday (today) she will begin a third cocktail of chemo agents.

Doctor’s appointment yesterday to discuss the new plan.  New plan muti- agent mix, weekly treatments.

Dr. NIH suggested we get more proactive about palliative care. Maybe changing pain med types, changing the nausea agents, so we are working on getting that in place, and it looks like it will bring us back as out-patients to the WHC where we called the palliative  care team the dream team.

The last chemo knocked her out for a week so we are kind of expecting another knock out from this one as the effects seem to be cumulative even if agents change.

Cancer sucks.

Many of you have said, or written, that you are thinking about Kirby or that she is in “your thoughts and prayers.”  As we begin this new treatment plan, now would be a good time for all of us to focus all of that positive energy on thinking, hoping, and praying that 1C, new chemo treatment, will be effective in stopping the growth of this cancer.

Shabbat Shalom and thank you all for being the most wonderful support community, close by and from a far, than we could possibly imagine.

    Dear Kirby, Judith & Robert,
I’m asking all my friends to redouble their prayers and good wishes. I’ve asked the folks at the Universalist National Memorial Church, the Living Water Community of Roman Catholic Women Priests and the local Parsee (Zoroastrian) community to keep those prayers coming. What we all want is for the 1C treatment will be effective and that you’ll be seeing progress soon.
    All my love,
    Colleen Fay

    1C, 1C, 1C, 1C … My thoughts are with you always …
    Love, Jan

PS – I bought one of your necklaces at the Chanukah fair for a very close friend of mine. I finally got to give her her Chanukah gifts earlier this week – and she really loved the necklace (green and purple beads knotted on light purple/lavendar ribbon with a very cool clasp)

It does not take yet another round of chemo to keep Kirby in our thoughts and prayers, she has been there all along. We will just go in to overdrive keeping Kirby in our thoughts. Be strong.

OK – I am bringing in the big guns now – all the italian ladies in stamford will now add Kirby to their prayer circles (who is this jewish girl in dc they ask – we explain – they go for it), with some luck it will spread to florida in a few days – and there are lost and lots of italian ladies out there – they seem to be particularly effective when it comes to getting things done. PS: likewise – the C1 mantra will be our chant.
